On October 16, 2024, The Smile Outreach proudly launched Bold Spaces at Hope Jon School in Mararaba, marking a significant step in our journey to empower young people with crucial knowledge about sexual grooming and adolescent health. This initiative, part of our larger mission to address critical issues at the grassroots level, engaged both boys and girls in interactive discussions that tackled sensitive but important topics.
Summary of the Event
At Hope Jon School, we reached 143 students (78 girls and 65 boys), educating them on how to identify predatory behaviors and understand the concept of sexual grooming. We also introduced them to the idea of “blessers” – individuals who seek to manipulate or exploit young people under the guise of financial or material support. The session was engaging and informative, offering students a safe space to ask questions and voice their concerns about the challenges they face during adolescence.
What’s Next? Join Us in Creating More Bold Spaces
The overwhelming curiosity and active participation of the students highlighted just how important it is to continue these conversations. This activation at Hope Jon School is just the beginning. We invite you to help us establish Bold Spaces in more schools, churches, and communities, creating supportive environments where adolescents can learn, grow, and protect themselves from harm.
Conclusion
The launch of Bold Spaces at Hope Jon School was an inspiring success, but the work doesn’t stop here. As we move forward, we aim to expand our reach, providing even more young people with the tools they need to navigate the complexities of adolescence safely.
